FNAF-FOR-FREE (Temp) Devlog 1

Hey! This is the first set in a series of devlogs about a project I'm working on! Its a fnaf fan game that currently doesn't have a proper title. This is a project I've actually been working on and got the original idea around July 2025. I even had an almost completely functional alpha version in August, but ended up losing all of the source code while switching Linux distro's. (And also all the asset files...)

THANKFULLY, I like to send builds of my games to my friends, and while I don't have the source code, I do have something to work off of. (Including some of the original assets!) Now, the previous iteration of the game was made in the C programming language using Raylib. This is because its what I used when making Kinder Kat, and I actually just copied Kinder Kat's "Engine" over to the new project after adding some additions.

It actually had quite a bit of functionality that I programmed mostly on my own, such as cross platform fullscreen, render texture resize handling along with stretch and aspect ratio control, and other things. All being saved to a binary file so the settings would work on restart.

Well... To my dismay... Most of what I did is easily done using SDL 3 itself without much help. Although, the downside to this is that raylib's api has a lot more overall, and gives you a lot finer control over things. Interesting to see the difference between the two, even considering you can use SDL 3 along side raylib if you're willing to go through vast amounts of pain.

Also, in an unamed internet chat client I used, I have a special devlog I'll pull info from every once in a while.

So, I've started through the process of remaking the game and hopefully getting something fun people will enjoy. Not actually sure what the fnaf community will think of it, or if it'll get much attention, but I don't really care. I'm mostly making this because I need to get this idea for this fan game out of my head and onto my screen.
